Financial Conversations That Actually Work

We teach people how to talk about money without the awkwardness. Our team's been doing this since 2019, helping Australians navigate tricky financial discussions at work, at home, and everywhere in between.

We Started Because Words Matter

Back in early 2019, our founder Elspeth Cavanagh noticed something strange. People were making solid financial decisions on paper but couldn't explain them to their partners, colleagues, or business partners. The technical knowledge was there—the communication skills weren't.

So we built sylthareon around a simple idea: financial literacy means nothing if you can't articulate your thinking clearly. We focus on the human side of finance—how to negotiate salary, explain budget concerns, or discuss investment strategies without triggering defensiveness.

Our approach comes from real scenarios we've encountered over the years. Not theoretical case studies, but actual conversations that went sideways and how to redirect them.

What Drives Our Work

Plain Language First

Financial jargon creates barriers. We teach people to translate complex concepts into conversational language that anyone can understand—because clarity builds trust.

Context Awareness

The way you discuss finances with your manager differs from how you talk with your spouse. We help people recognize these contexts and adjust their communication style accordingly.

Practical Application

Every technique we teach comes from situations we've actually seen. No academic theory—just strategies that work when stakes are high and emotions are involved.

The Skills We Build

  • Structuring difficult financial conversations so both parties feel heard rather than attacked
  • Reading body language and tone during money discussions to adjust approach in real time
  • Presenting budget restrictions or financial concerns without sounding dismissive or inflexible
  • Negotiating compensation, project fees, or contracts with confidence and appropriate assertiveness
  • Explaining financial decisions to stakeholders with varying levels of financial background
  • Managing emotional responses when financial discussions become tense or personal

How We Actually Work With You

Our programs run for eight to twelve weeks, depending on your starting point and goals. We mix group workshops with individual coaching because financial communication isn't one-size-fits-all.

You'll practice real scenarios—the salary conversation you've been avoiding, the client negotiation that makes you nervous, the family discussion about shared expenses. We record sessions (with permission) so you can see your patterns and progress.

Most participants notice a shift within the first month. Not because we're miraculous teachers, but because intentional practice with feedback creates genuine improvement. Our next cohort begins in late June 2025.
